To choose the 1st district, it is to live among the most famous monuments of Paris. It is also living in commercial arteries, animated by the passage of tourists and Parisians. The 1st arrondissement offers an exceptional environment but requires some sacrifices, especially that of the car! A renunciation to which the inhabitants lend themselves heartily.
The inhabitants of the 1st arrondissement do not tire of listing all the monuments that adorn the streets of their neighborhood. The Louvre, the Conciergerie and the Sainte Chapelle, boulevard du Palais, the Palais Royal, rue de Montpensier, the church of Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois, the oldest in Paris, the Comédie Française, or the whole of the Place Vendôme, are just a few examples of the wonders you come across in the 1st arrondissement. However, its inhabitants also like to remind that their neighborhood has the largest area of green spaces in the capital, outside the two woods. In fact, in addition to the 25 hectares of the Jardin des Tuileries, they take advantage of more intimate and less crowded tourist spots like the charming square of Vert-Galant, at the western end of the Ile de la Cité. We find ourselves between regulars and friends, to share the latest news and to smile at the wonder of the few lovers who find the address of this little corner of calm. That said, as some people point out anyway, this concentration of monuments and emblematic places forces them to live with the inevitable tourist frequentation.
Residents of the 1st benefit from an exceptional cultural offer. In addition to museums such as the Louvre and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, rue de Rivoli, the district is rich in theaters, the Comédie Française, in the first place, but also that of Châtelet, and the Royal Palace. Cinema buffs enjoy the gigantic Les Halles complex, with its 27 theaters, at the Forum des Halles. To go out, do not miss the elegant tea rooms of the rue de Rivoli, the Japanese restaurants next to the rue Sainte-Anne, nor the large choice of fast food Forum des Halles. The inhabitants of the 1st district also underline the variety of the offer which is proposed to them with regard to shopping. The Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré and the rue de Rivoli bring together some of the most elegant shops in Paris, while the Les Halles shopping center meets all budgets.
The exceptional setting, with elegant architecture marked by history, the 1st arrondissement is adored by its inhabitants. This quality of life is nevertheless reflected by the property prices among the highest in the capital. And if the constant animation, due to the presence of tourists, sometimes disturbs the calm of its streets, the inhabitants would not change for anything in the world!
